FARC-EP Reaffirms Interest in Giving Up Weapons

Bogota, Mar 29 (RHC) A spokesman for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army  (the FACR-EP), noted the insurgent's will to quit their weaponry.

Carlos Antonio Lozada reminds that the Colombian rebel group and the government haS arranged monitoring and verification mechanisms to, by proceeding in phases, destroy the explosives, and store and look after the weaponry of support and for collective use, and supervise gradual relinquishment of weaponry for personal defense.

Lozada reiterated that the UN, with assistance of Latin American and Caribbean observers, will oversee the weaponry delivery once started. Nonetheless, he stressed on the need for some precisions to reach a final pact on the matter.
