Havana, Nov 26 (Prensa Latina) The first Cuban Vice President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, affirmed here today that the future of relations will depend on the U.S. government's behavior.

We are still open to relations with Washington, but without conditions, underlined Diaz Canel after voting in the elections of delegates to the municipal assemblies that are taking place in Cuba.

He referred that the links should be based on equality, cooperation and respect for the right of the Cuban people to their independence and sovereignty. Diaz Canel, also member of the Political Bureau, ensured that the conditions were always imposed by the U.S. government.

We did not impose conditions on anyone, or a blockade, or assault anyone, it has never been in our ethics; plainly what we did was a Revolution, he stressed. He added that former President Barack Obama (2009-2017) tried to rebuild relations with Havana and took steps to advance on it.

There was a reestablishment of the links and later we started moving towards a normalization of relations, he added.

However, he pointed out, this process will not be possible without the lifting of the economic, financial and commercial blockade, the cease of subversive plans and the return of the territory illegally occupied by the U.S. base in Guantanamo in eastern Cuba.

Diaz Canel told reporters that it was shown that both countries could have a relation of coexistence, despite ideological differences.

The current administration of President Donald Trump is hardening the blockade and refrain the advanced path, he concluded.
