Havana, March 22 (RHC) –The president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac), Miguel Barnet, considers Donald Trump's attitude toward the island a disease, and not a eflection of  the position of the majority of the American people.

¨I think there is a seriously ill patient who has a paranoid and Ezquizophrenic attitude towards Cuba: that is the attitude of U.S. administrations, which has nothing to do with the people of this country,” Barnet  told Prensa Latina in an exclusive interview.

He noted that Cuba is also being persecuted for its ties to Venezuela, with the U.S. Accusing the island of supporting a supposed dictatorship, although President Nicolás Maduro won the country's democratic elections last year.

In addition, the US blockade against the island continues to be tightened, 'in order to reverse the detente that took place during the presidential term of Barack Obama,' Barnet noted.

The Trump administration is imposing and reviving illegal laws, such as Title III of the Helms Burton Act, 'which is absurd, illegal and criminal,' stated the Cuban intellectual.

Barnet went on to describe the situation as a 'shame' because the 'United States is a country with a great culture, we owe a lot to that culture and they owe us a lot, from music, literature, visual arts...Because of our proximity, we should live as sister nations, but they think they are the owners of the world, the gendarmes of the world, the police of the world,' said the President of the Uneac.

According to Barnet, the U.S. is intent on attacking socialist countries like Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua, which oppose capitalism. Despite this he noted that 'Socialism is a system that will prevail because it is a system based on social justice, where all types of discrimination, not only racial or gender, are fought.'
