Havana, April 1 (RHC)-- “The Office of the Attorney General of the Republic of Cuba stands as a pillar for exercising and defending legality in our country, so that there is an honest exercise of justice, so that we face corruption and illegality more effectively and more efficiently,” said President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez during the annual balance meeting of that important Cuban State entity.

Díaz-Canel went on to say: "The Attorney General’s Office plays a fundamental role in defending the concept of a socialist State of law, which we have endorsed in the new Constitution."

The meeting directed by Attorney General Yamila Peña Ojeda was also attended by members of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party: Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, Secretary General of the Central Workers of Cuba; and Teresa Amarelle Boué, Secretary General of the Federation of Cuban Women. They discussed issues such as the quality of criminal proceedings, the constant preparation of prosecutors, timely attention to complaints from citizens and links with universities.

The Cuban president stressed that the Office of the Prosecutor is essential in defending the dignity of the nation and he added that as long as they do their daily work well, on behalf of the State, the people and the Revolution, they will be preserving the dignity of the country.

Díaz-Canel pointed to the presence of young people and women at all levels of the Attorney General's Office, and he said that it was an example of the empowerment of both sectors in Cuba. ¨If you have a force,¨ the President said, ¨it is your young people who are holding important positions. They should be supported, prepared and not limited in their development. Working with young people in an activity of such rigor is something emancipatory, something that exalts."
