Havana, May 13 (RHC)-- Cuba will shortly chair the Regional Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion of Nuclear Science and Technology in Latin America and the Caribbean (ARCAL).

The assumption of office for a period of two years will become effective at the 20th meeting of ARCAL Technical Coordination Body, which will be held from May 20 to 24 in Varadero, Matanzas, reported the Nuclear Communicators Network (RECNUC).

The network informed that while chairing ARCAL, Cuba will continue its collaboration on the training of human resources, the promotion of nuclear applications and of a culture of security in the region.

ARCAL was implemented in 1984, in response to an initiative brought by 10 countries, to the Vienna –based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Its main focus is providing multiple horizontal, technical and economic support to member countries in order to promote the use of nuclear technologies and their applications for peaceful purposes.
