Cuba denounces arrest of chief of medical mission in Bolivia

Havana, November 15 (RHC)-- Cuba denounced Friday to the international community the arrest of the Chief-Coordinator of its Medical Contingent in Bolivia, Doctor Yoandra Muro Valle.

In remarks to the press, Eugenio Martinez, Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at the Foreign Ministry, called on the Bolivian authorities to preserve the lives of the Cuban aid personnel and denounced new detentions, including that of Jacinto Alfonso Perez, chief of Logistics of the Cuban health brigade.

At the moment Martinez spoke to the press, he denounced that a vehicle with a license plate belonging to the US Embassy in Bolivia was stationed outside of the house of the chief of the medical mission.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced the unjustified detention on Twitter, and he said that the vehicle had a license plate 28-CD-17 belonging to the US Embassy, and he accused that diplomatic mission of participating in the police operative to arrest Doctor Yoandra Muro.

In a tweet, Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel demanded an end to the worsening of irresponsible anti-Cuban and hateful expressions, lies, defamations, and incitements to violence against Cuban aid workers, who have made their solidarity contribution to the health of this brotherly Bolivian people.

“Cuba denounces the harassment and mistreatment of our doctors in Bolivia. In the name of no political ideology, hatred can harm those who have devoted themselves to giving life and health to the humble,” Diaz-Canel wrote.

Earlier on Friday, Cuba announced it would be withdrawing all of its aid personnel from Bolivia after de facto authorities accused Cuban aid workers of financing violence in the country.
