Havana, May 17 (RHC)-- The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, sent a message of congratulations to the country's farmers this Sunday for celebration of their day and the 61st anniversary of the first Agrarian Reform Law in the nation.

"Happy day to the men and women of the countryside who were given their lands on May 17, 1959.  Noble, hard-working and patriotic forces that are strategic in the economic recovery of the country," the president wrote on his Twitter account.

The head of state accompanied the message with an article published by the Granma newspaper that refers to the approval of the decree as a watershed in the history of the nascent Revolution, with the aim of changing the reality of the country's rural areas.
