Temporary Working Group on Covid-19 meets on September 7, 2020, chaired by President Miguel Diaz-Canel

Havana, Sep 7 (RHC) Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, ratified this Monday the importance of an effective screening to detect asymptomatic patients of Covid-19, at a time when the disease is spreading through the west and center of the country.

During the regular meeting to evaluate the control of the disease caused by the new coronavirus, the head of state insisted on extreme protection and hygiene measures, even in an eventual return to normality in the national territory.

"When we are in a better situation, the measures and research must be maintained. They are essential to detect asymptomatic people, isolate them and stop the contagion," said Díaz-Canel.

For his part, the head of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), José Ángel Portal, said that 17 local transmission events are open in the Caribbean nation, the highest number in Havana.

However, the province of Ciego de Avila (center) increased to three the events detected, so the measures are intensified in the last days.

In the temporary working group meeting, the Governor of Ciego de Avila, Tomás Alexis Martín, described the situation in his province as complicated, particularly in the Provincial Hospital 'Antonio Luaces'.

"Together with Health Ministry authorities, severe measures are reviewed which include the establishment of quarantine to the whole institution to strengthen disinfection and sanitary protocols," informed the Governor.
