Canadian and Cuban companies hold virtual agri-food forum

Ottawa, February 4 (RHC)-- Executives of 23 Canadian companies, 16 of them from Quebec and representatives of Cuban companies, held a virtual Agri-Food Forum on business opportunities in Cuba, diplomatic sources reported.

The event, which took place on Wednesday, was organized by the Canada-Cuba Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba and was attended by the Caribbean nation's Agricultural and Livestock business groups and the companies Azcuba and Gecomex.

These entities presented opportunities for the development of trade and investments in the agro-industrial and food sector of the island and the new work prospects in the provision of services to the non-state sector.

The companies Frutas Selectas, Cítricos Caribe, Agroindustrial Ceballos, La Estancia, and Maquimport held virtual bilateral meetings with Canadian businesspeople interested in the Cuban market for agri-food products and inputs.

The forum was attended by representatives of the Canadian government and the Ministries of International Relations, Food and Fisheries, and Economic of Quebec.

On the Cuban side, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment and ProCuba, an entity that promotes foreign companies' participation in business with the island, attended.

The Cuban diplomatic mission was represented by Ambassador Josefina Vidal, the Economic-Commercial Counselor, Cristina Ramos, and the Consul General in Montreal, Mara Bilbao.
