Havana, August 14 (RHC) Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reiterated his solidarity with Haiti on Saturday and expressed condolences to its people and government after the earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale that shook that nation.

Likewise, the Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed his condolences, especially to the families of the deceased.

In his message, he also highlighted how Cuban health professionals on a mission have been attending to the injured since early in the morning, even outside the hospital facilities affected by the earthquake.

Also, in a tweet, the general director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry, Eugenio Martínez, pointed out that the Cuban health workers have already provided assistance to more than half a thousand without wasting minute patients affected by the earthquake.

The earthquake occurred at 08:30 (local time) at about 12 kilometers from the town of Saint-Louis du Sud, in the south of the country, and at a depth of 10 kilometers.

According to the Civil Protection Directorate of Port-au-Prince, the number of deaths caused by the earthquake increased to 300, and hundreds of injured are registered, but the figures could be higher.

Havana's diplomatic staff in Haiti reported in the morning that medical collaborators and members of other Cuban missions there were safe after the quake.
