Cuban president attends closing ceremony of University Congress 2022

Havana, February 11 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel attended this Friday the closing session of the XIII International Congress on Higher Education, University 2022, at the Havana Convention Palace.

Accompanying the president were Deputy Prime Minister Jorge Luis Perdomo; member of the CC-PCC Secretariat and head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector, Jorge Luis Broche, and José Ramón Saborido, head of the Ministry of Higher Education.

The afternoon program includeed a keynote lecture by Brazilian theologian and popular educator Frei Betto, on the challenges of higher education in the transition to a post-pandemic world.

According to the organizing committee, from Monday until today, more than 1,700 papers were presented and academics and experts from 37 countries participated in hybrid mode (face-to-face and virtual).

The day before, on Thursday, the Cuban Minister of Higher Education gave a preliminary report on the signing of dozens of collaboration contracts with educational institutions from other countries, and described as successful the first event held by the sector after the appearance of COVID-19.
