Cuba and Honduras promote economic cooperation

Tegucigalpa, July 19 (RHC)-- Honduran President Xiomara Castro on Tuesday met with Cuban Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca to promote bilateral economic cooperation.

The meeting closed the Cuban minister’s working visit to Honduras, where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote collaboration in sectors such as health care, medicines, education, transportation, and sports, he said on Twitter.

The agreement was penned on the Honduran side by Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina, who said that it opens the possibility of going through new paths of cooperation in science and technology, literacy programs, and scholarships, among others.

The foreign minister recognized that Cuba has much to teach regarding health care and public education, social conquests, and universally recognized achievements.

Reina also expressed the Honduran Government’s solidarity with Cuba in the face US Blockade and reaffirmed the position of condemning any interference and intervention in the Cuban people’s self-determination and internal affairs.

Meanwhile, Malmierca noted that the memorandum “represents the rebirth and strengthening of the ties of brotherhood, solidarity, and cooperation between Honduras and Cuba.
