Brussels, September 5 (RHC) --The director for Europe and Canada of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Gisela García, fulfilled an intense program in Brussels on Monday as part of her tour of European Union (EU) countries to strengthen political dialogue.

Garcia headed the island's delegation to the inter-foreign affairs meeting with Belgium, a forum in which the host party was presided over by Patrick Herman, director for the Americas and the Caribbean of the Federal Public Service for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Garcia stressed that the exchange of criteria was framed on the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Belgium and allowed to address issues of the bilateral agenda, the Latin American and Caribbean region, and the international situation.

We also talked about cooperation issues, such as the one we develop in the academic field, said Garcia, who last week participated in the inter-foreign affairs meeting with Hungary and tomorrow will continue his work program in Luxembourg.

The Cuban ambassador to Belgium, Yaira Jimenez, accompanied the director in the meeting, during which the visiting delegation pointed out the situation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States has imposed on the Caribbean nation for more than six decades, a policy with an extraterritorial scope that affects European companies and citizens.

Regarding Washington's siege, García thanked Belgium for supporting the resolutions adopted yearly since 1992 by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) to demand lifting of the blockade.

She said it is essential to strengthening political dialogue after the period of limitations caused by the Covid-19 pandemic to deal with bilateral and multilateral matters.
