Havana, Nov 20 (RHC) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez sent heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Argentina on the death of Hebe de Bonafini, a great fighter and historic president of Mothers of Plaza de Mayo.

From his Twitter profile, the Foreign Minister expressed his deep sorrow for the death "of this dear friend of Cuba and of the Revolution" and also extended his message to the family and friends of the human rights defender.

The South American nation decreed three days of national mourning as a tribute to Hebe. Vice President Cristina Fernandez called her a world symbol of the struggle, and pride of Argentina. "God called you on the day of national sovereignty, it cannot be a coincidence. Thank you, and goodbye", she added.

According to local media, the renowned activist passed away this Sunday at the age of 93. She was discharged last October 13, after being hospitalized for three days at the Italian Hospital in La Plata for tests.

However, she continued with check-ups in the following weeks and it was decided to admit her again on November 12, according to official sources close to the leader of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association.

Also on Twitter, former Bolivian President Evo Morales expressed his sadness and dismay at the news and stressed that "her tireless and incorruptible struggle against dictatorships for memory, truth, and justice is an example for the new generations".

The President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, conveyed her solidarity with the Argentine people and described Hebe de Bonafini as tireless and exemplary. The Venezuelan Head of State, Nicolás Maduro, assured that the Great Homeland honors the valuable and deeply revolutionary woman. (Source: PL)
