National Electoral Council announces results of municipal elections

Havana, Dec 7 (RHC) The president of the National Electoral Council (CEN), Alina Balseiro, reported on Wednesday that in the first and second rounds of the municipal elections in Cuba 12,422 delegates were elected, 44.10 percent of them women, a figure higher than that achieved in previous processes.

 

In a press conference, she also announced that five districts of the country will go to the third round of elections tomorrow to elect representatives to the municipal assemblies of the People's Power.

 

The official pointed out that the elections took place with transparency, organization, and following the law.

 

She also detailed that 5 million 728 thousand 220 voters cast their ballots, which represent 68.56 percent of the more than 8 million 300 thousand voters summoned to the polls.

 

She explained that 89.11 percent of the total ballots were valid, 5.22 percent were blank and 5.67 percent were void.

 

According to the president of the CEN, next December 17, the municipal assemblies of the People's Power will be constituted for the next term of office.

 

She thanked all the electoral authorities of the country, organizations, and entities for their participation in the elections and affirmed that "it has been one more victory of our people". (Source: PL)
