Cuba mourns the death of an eminent scientist

Havana, Dec 11 (RHC) The Cuban Academy of Sciences -ACC-, regretted the recent death in Havana of eminent Cuban scientist Juan Luis Martín Chávez, one of its Merit members.

 

The institution issued wide information on his death, according to which, Martin Chavez was born in Havana in 1947 and had a remarkable career also as an intellectual, recognized nationally and internationally for his specialty in Urban Sociology, Youth, and Science.

 

He was the Coordinator of the Social and Humanistic Sciences Section of the ACC and a member of its Board of Directors for many years.

 

Today we lose a great scholar in areas such as the Development of Rural Communities in Cuba, Housing and the Rural Family, Methodology of Sociological Research, Merit Researcher, and Associate Professor of the Higher School of the PCC Ñico López, the note added.

 

According to the information, he gave lectures at universities in Cuba and New York, France, Venezuela, Angola, and Nicaragua and represented his country at UNESCO headquarters in Paris for several years.

 

He was a member of the Group of Experts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Editorial Board of the Contracorriente Magazine, the International Relations Commission of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment, and the Coordination Group of the Cuban Chapter of the Front in Defense of Humanity.

 

He pointed out his multiple decorations, among them the Carlos J. Finlay Order, the Juan Tomás Roig Distinction, and the Félix Varela 2022 Award, granted by the Economic Society of Friends of the Country. (Source: ACN).
