Havana, Dec 14 (RHC) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel said Wednesday that the blockade and support for subversion are the main characteristics of relations with the United States.

At the end of the 10th ordinary session of the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament), the president added that in 2022 the economic, financial, and commercial punitive measures continued to be used as a weapon of coercion and hinder the development of the country.

He said that the U.S. government tolerated those who guided, financed, and trained individuals to commit violent acts against our nation from its territory.

Díaz-Canel added that in a new act that shows the interests of the current administration, Cuba was included in a list of governments that, according to Washington, pursue religious people despite signs that point to the contrary.

He stressed that during this stage, very discreet steps were taken on issues such as compliance with the migratory agreements and other areas of priority and common interest.

In that sense, he pointed out the assistance offered by the United States during the disasters at the Matanzas supertanker base and Hurricane Ian in Pinar del Río, which was accepted by the Cuban government because it was provided without conditions.

The head of state ratified that Cuba is willing to advance in establishing a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship by international law and sovereignty.

Likewise, he warned that the nature of the U.S. policy towards Cuba suggests that the blockade could last for several more years, hence the need to join efforts to solve problems, face limitations, channel development, and denounce it at every opportunity.

For three days the Cuban deputies analyzed issues related to the socioeconomic life of the archipelago such as the implementation of measures to face the economic situation of the country, the progress of the legislative schedule, and the fight against crime. (Source: PL)
