Cuban ambassador to Syria receives decoration

Damascus, January 11 (RHC) Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, awarded the Cuban Ambassador to Damascus, Miguel Porto Parga, the Syrian Medal of Merit of excellent grade, in recognition of his efforts aimed at fostering relations between the two nations.

The order was awarded to the diplomat, in an official ceremony, by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Sousan, on behalf of the President of Syria.

In his remarks, the island's ambassador said that this recognition reflects the continuity of the work and effort deployed by Cuban diplomacy during 57 years of relations between the two countries.

Bilateral relations have their maximum exponent in the common political positions in the international arena, both in regional and international scenarios and both sides work tirelessly to bring economic and trade relations to the same level of political relations, said the diplomat.

He reiterated that Havana has always supported Syria in all scenarios, the right of the Syrian people to their freedom, independence, and sovereignty, and the recovery of all its territory from terrorism.

The ceremony was attended by ambassadors of countries accredited in Damascus and senior officials of the Syrian Foreign Ministry. (Source: PL)
