Havana, January 15 (RHC)-- Cuban Science Day is being celebrated this Sunday in the largest Antillean island, where innovation in 2023 will be the central axis of the strategy for scientific development.

In the province of Sancti Spiritus, 355 kilometers east of Havana, the central event for the ephemeris was held the day before.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) chose this territory for the outstanding results achieved in this strategic sector.

Previously, in a press conference, Elba Rosa Pérez, head of this portfolio, emphasized that the use of the most diverse and profound knowledge is key to solve the problems faced by the nation.

She said that in innovation, in addition to other fronts, priority will be given to food production, demography, industry and energy, especially renewable energy, because the country aspires to change its energy matrix by 2030.

Perez said that it is planned to re-evaluate rurality as a scientific activity, promote circular economy and the assurance of the Tarea Vida, a four-stage environmental protection plan until 2030, which is now in its second stage.

She pointed out that the Task Life is of great importance for Cuba, an island country that suffers the consequences of climate change, hence the need to pay attention to this issue, together with pollution and biodiversity.

She pointed out that it is essential to do more science aimed at the implementation of public policies and decision-making. "Therefore, it is necessary to expand the space of social and humanistic sciences," she said.

She considered that 2023 will be an opportune year to increase publications, patents and investments in the scientific field, and urged to strengthen the socialist state enterprise and other forms of production.
