Pope Francis' envoy completes pastoral visit program in Cuba

Havana, Jan 24 (RHC) Cardinal Beniamino Stella fulfills the work program foreseen in his pastoral visit to Cuba, as an envoy of Pope Francis for the 25th anniversary of the apostolic journey of St. John Paul II.

 

According to diplomatic sources, during his stay in the archipelago, Stella will dialogue with authorities and carry out other pastoral activities.

 

The clergyman was received the day before by the head of the Office of Religious Affairs of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Caridad Diego Bello, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Elio Rodríguez Perdomo, and the Apostolic Nuncio, Giampiero Gloder.

 

This January 21 marked the 25th anniversary of the beginning of Pope John Paul II's pastoral visit to Cuba, the first by a Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church to the country.

 

His successors, Benedict XVI and Francis, also made pastoral visits to the Island, in 2012 and 2015, respectively. (Source: PL)
