Priority is given to extracting the soot that still remains inside the chimney and cleaning the area around that sector

Havana, April 12 (RHC) - A brigade from the Specialized Construction and Assembly Company is working today on the recovery of the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant, in the western city of Matanzas, after the collapse that caused the death of two workers.

Priority is given to extracting the soot that still remains inside the chimney and cleaning the area around that sector.

The director of the Thermoelectric Power Plant, Misbel Palmero, explained that although the work schedule is still being studied to solve the damage to the structure, the human and material resources already exist to carry out the task. She specified that the recovery work should not exceed the time allocated for the maintenance of the block, scheduled until May.

The construction actions will consist of the lifting of the demolished side walls to facilitate the extraction of the worker's room buried by the rubble, as well as studying the feasibility of building a new partition inside the chimney.

On April 7, a wall collapsed inside the chimney of that facility, at the moment when four workers from the unit carried out maintenance work. (Source: Prensa Latina)
