Cuba and China strengthen cooperation in biotechnology

Havana, Sep 7 (RHC) Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel received this Wednesday the main members of the Chinese delegation participating in the XII Meeting of the Joint Working Group on Biotechnology between both countries.

The Cuban president recalled his official visit to the Asian giant in November last year and the recent meeting he had with President Xi Jinping in South Africa in the context of the BRICS Summit.

He confirmed to the Chinese delegation the island's will to continue supporting the growth, development and consolidation of that cooperation. He highlighted the way in which both countries helped each other during the Covid-19 pandemic, which opened a new stage in cooperation to face future pandemics and prepare for new health emergencies.

As the most reliable example of the development achieved, he recalled the Pancorona universal vaccine against strains of coronavirus, developed at the Chinese-Cuban Center for Research, Development and Innovation in Yongzhou.

The president proposed as another line of development the creation of biotechnology joint ventures in Cuba, which in his opinion will allow the market for Latin America and the Caribbean to work together.

For his part, the secretary general of the National Development and Reform Commission of China, Wu Hao, stressed that the exchange between the two countries is a model, an example for bilateral cooperation in other commercial, economic and productive sectors.
