Cuba and Guyana strengthen ties to promote honey production

 

Havana, Oct 23 (RHC) The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Cuba and Guyana will facilitate the means to promote the production of honey in the South American nation, according to a journalistic report in Georgetown.

The agreement seeks to strengthen cooperation between the Ministries of Agriculture of both countries in matters of beekeeping, forestry, animal and livestock products, agriculture and vegetables, among other areas.

The director general of the Guyanese Ministry of Agriculture, Madanlall Ramraj, praised the long-standing relationship between the signatory nations of the agreement.

He commented that his country exhibits great potential for beekeeping, and that the field could provide employment and sustainable income for the population of inland communities. He trusted in the ability of the sphere to become an exportable good.

Ramraj noted that Guyana will sign a technical assistance agreement with a Cuban company, which will allow these activities to boost bee production. These actions include, among others, training of technical assistants for beekeeping producers, management of qualifications, advice on bee population monitoring and the preparation of veterinary technicians.

Other topics of interest in the agreement include urban and suburban agriculture, genetic improvement and production of rice and poppy seeds, training of agricultural producers on the control of pesticide use in agriculture, and advice on plant health and safe and effective methods.

The Cuban ambassador to Guyana, Jorge Soberón, stressed that Guyana, as a member of the Caribbean Community, plays a fundamental role in the area of ​​food security and food production.
