Havana, January 21 (RHC)-- The international forum of journalists called New Operation Truth, organized by the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina, will begin this Sunday in Cuba with the participation of more than 60 delegates from some 30 countries.

Today in the Cuban capital, debates will be held in different panels on the main problems of communication today and the need to articulate the news production of the media that defend just causes.

At the opening of the event, the documentary Nueva Operación Verdad (New Operation Truth) will be premiered, which revives, through interviews with prominent national personalities, Fidel Castro's historic initiative to gather, 65 years ago, dozens of foreign journalists to dismantle the disinformation campaign against the nascent Cuban revolution in 1959.

According to the organizers of the conclave, the audiovisual showcases moments of the revolutionary government's defense of the sanctions applied by the courts of the nascent social project against murderers and torturers of Fulgencio Batista's dictatorship (1952-1959).

Those trials and the corresponding sanctions were the pretext for a strong media manipulation campaign exercised from the United States against the Cuban revolutionary leadership.

The event prompted the idea of historic leader Fidel Castro to counteract the hegemony of the imperialist press, which led to the emergence, five months later, of the Prensa Latina news agency, considered the first American challenge to the media hegemony of the large information monopolies, particularly in Latin America and the Caribbean.  (Source:PL)
