Havana, January 20 (RHC) -- More than 60 delegates from more than 30 countries are in Havana this Saturday to participate in the New Operation Truth forum organized by the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina.

During the 21st and 22nd, participants will discuss in different panels the main problems of communication today and the need to articulate the news production of the media that defend just causes.

On the first day of the event, the documentary Nueva Operación Verdad will be presented.

The date chosen for the premiere coincides with the 65th anniversary of Operation Truth, an initiative that gathered in Havana hundreds of foreign journalists invited by the revolutionary government to counteract the media campaign of the United States and its allies against the young Cuban Revolution in 1959.

The film, produced by Prensa Latina Television, deals with the context in which Cuba's response to media manipulation took place with historical rigor and excellent production, focusing on the trials carried out and the sanctions imposed by the revolutionary courts on the murderers and torturers of Fulgencio Batista's dictatorship (1952-1959).

In the heat of that event, barely five months later, the Prensa Latina news agency was born, the first American challenge to the media hegemony of the big information monopolies, particulary in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Through the testimonies and arguments of authoritative voices such as journalist and founder of Prensa Latina José Bodes Gómez, historians Eusebio Leal and Eduardo Torres Cuevas and professor Hilda Saladrigas, the documentary recreates an event whose causes are still in full force, while setting guidelines in the search for new horizons.  (Source: Prensa Latina).
