Havana, May 21 (RHC)-- Before winding up a three-day visit to Cuba, Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic granted Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro the Order of the Serbian Republic, and described his meeting with Fidel as “a dream come true.”

Nikolic told reporters that he was able to meet the Cuban people who, like Serbians, know the meaning of freedom and said that his visit was “fantastic.”

The Serbian head of state was awarded the Jose Marti Order, the highest distinction granted by Cuba and he also held official talks with President Raul Castro.

This was the first visit to the island by a Serbian president since the former Yugoslavia disintegrated. Bilateral relations between Cuba and Serbia were established August 30, 1943.
