Buenos Aires, February 10 (RHC) -- The Argentinean Club of Journalists Friends of Cuba (Capac) expressed its solidarity with the alternative communication project Cubainformación and denounced the actions promoted today by the right wing to shut down media outlets that support the island.

The coordinator of that portal, José Manzaneda, and the Euskadi-Cuba association are facing a lawsuit in Spain for alleged libel, slander and hate crime.

Said accusation was filed by the president of the organization Prisoners Defenders, Javier Larrondo, for the report "Creating a health crisis in Cuba: objective of the war against its medical cooperation", dated October 2020.

According to Manzaneda, the legal action seeks to silence Cubainformación for calling attention to Prisoners Defenders' links with the U.S. government in its strategy to destroy the international medical cooperation of the largest of the Antilles.

In a communiqué, Capac denounced "the actions of the Spanish justice system aimed at curtailing freedom of the press and opinion, by agreeing to prosecute the journalist, the multimedia and the Euskadi-Cuba association."

"We repudiate the worm and counterrevolutionary organization Prisoners Defenders, a political appendix of the U.S. State Department and denounced for receiving financing from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Also Larrondo, representative of the right-wing Cuban Patriotic Union, which permanently carries out actions against the Revolution and headed the defamation campaign against the medical contingent Henry Reeve", he adds.

Likewise, he denounces that, despite the fact that there is no crime, Manzaneda is being asked for six years in prison and a fine of 15,600 euros (which, if not paid, would extend his imprisonment for 13 more months), plus 50,000 euros in compensation, in a trial that will take place on the 15th of this month in Madrid.

"We denounce the attempt to silence the press in solidarity with Cuba and with the just causes of this world, which violates freedom of the press and freedom of expression, in addition to curtailing the right of opinion. We demand that the Spanish judiciary annul this process."    (Source: Prensa Latina)
