In an adverse economic situation such as the one prevailing in Cuba, society seeks to redouble the protection of scarce essential resources, hence the importance of prevention against crime.

The authorities and social organizations increase the practices of reinforcement and protection, especially of food, many of them internally deficient.

This should be so because unscrupulous individuals try to take advantage of the problems and commit transgressions harmful to the interests of the community, so the government and other agencies urge greater demand and control.

To close ranks from the factories and rural areas, to greater compliance with regulations and to analyze when abnormal situations occur, Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero recently called.

As pointed out months ago in an editorial of the official newspaper Granma, in spite of the enormous efforts to neutralize them, the situation of crime, corruption, illegalities and social indiscipline remains complex.

The article pointed out that in the present national context there is a sector of the population, including young people, who see crime and illegality as a quick way to obtain profits.

Beyond what was pointed out in the editorial, it is clear that the fight against these scourges is not only the responsibility of the Ministry of the Interior, the police, other authorities and justice agencies.

The population can contribute to prevention as an essential step to reduce transgressions and to safeguard today's meager resources, when the country is suffering the serious effects of the intensification of the U.S. blockade.

The consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, the drop in tourism at that stage, the imprint of international tensions in the markets and the inclusion of Cuba in the list of countries that, according to the United States, sponsor terrorism, led the country to an agonizing foreign exchange deficit.

When there are food restrictions, among other items, society must close the door to those who steal and clandestinely trade the product of their misdeeds.

The head of government, Manuel Marrero, confirmed that the figures reflect the fight against crime, corruption and illegalities.

However, he said, there is still dissatisfaction among the population because they are not always reported.

In the course of 2024, the Cuban government reaffirms that the attack against the aforementioned phenomena is one of its fundamental objectives to correct distortions and boost the economy.
