More than 500 Cuban and foreign writers participate in Cuba’s Poetry Festival

International Poetry Festival Cuba 2021

Havana, May 25 (RHC)— The International Poetry Festival of Havana began this Tuesday, May 25th with the participation of more than 500 poets from 50 nations, including more than 150 Cuban poets, from different generations, in a virtual poetry meeting with the slogan ‘Por Cuba otra vez’ (For Cuban once again). The event runs through May 30th.

Organized by the CubaPoesía cultural center, the National Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC), the Cuban Book Institute and the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the event is presided over by Cuban National Literature Prize laureate Nancy Morejón.

The online program includes poetry readings, music recitals, poetry forums, debates on poets’ role in today’s society, a workshop on poetry writing and the Meeting of Poets in Defense of Humanity.

The Poetry Festival is dedicated this time to the 60th anniversary of the National Association of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and to the iconic speech by Revolution leader Fidel Castro known as ‘Palabras a los intelectuales’ or (Words to Intellectuals).
