Havana, Oct. 1 (RHC)-- The University of Havana and the Fernando Ortiz Foundation have signed a cooperation agreement that provides for the development of common projects.

The ceremony was presided over by Miguel Barnet, president of the Fernando Ortiz Foundation and Miriam Nicado, dean of the University of Havana. Also on hand were educational authorities, researchers and professors from the two higher education entities.

Miguel Barnet explained that the agreement is a step forward in the Foundation’s objective to take the vast work of Fernando Ortiz to university students, through books, curses and seminars.

Barnet gave the University authorities a series of books and other materials published by the Foundation, mostly previously unpublished works by Fernando Ortiz.

José Antonio Baujin, vice dean of the University of Havana pointed to the strong, historical bonds between Fernando Ortiz and the University, where he gave his memorable lecture entitled ‘Los factores humanos de la cubanidad,’ on November 28th, 1939.
