Cuban Summer Film Festival gets underway in Cuba

Havana, July 4 (RHC)-- The Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industries and the Cuban Cinematheque announced Tuesday in Havana the start of the sixth edition of the Summer Film Festival, which will begin on Thursday.

This year, 132 films are expected to be screened, including revivals and premieres, distributed in 18 thematic cycles that include children's productions, horror, musicals, erotic films, among other proposals.

The opening of the first part of the festival will be the premiere of the Cuban film "AM-PM" (2022), by director Alejandro Gil, at the Charles Chaplin movie theater in Havana.

We have designed this program with the intention of covering the greatest number of aspirations in terms of film proposals, taking into account the particularities of the holiday period, explained Lilian Morales, director of Programming at Icaic.

She indicated that the highlight of this summer is the premiere of several documentaries and two feature films, all of them national productions or co-productions.

In addition, the second edition of the Horizonte Italia-Cuba event and the special presentations of two films that are a collaboration with the embassies of some countries belonging to the Community of Caribbean States such as Suriname and Barbados are expected to take place.

The second stage will open in August with the presentation of the Spanish-Cuban co-production "El mundo de Nelsito" (2022), by renowned filmmaker Fernando Perez.

Morales expressed the intention that this programming will not be limited only to Havana, but will reach several provinces of the country, although he pointed out that it is a rather complicated challenge.

So far, the varied film cycles can be enjoyed by Havana audiences at the Charles Chaplin, Multicine Infanta, 23 and 12, Acapulco, Yara, Riviera and Glauber Rocha movie theaters.
