Young pianist Rodrigo García
Havana, June 19 (RHC)-- As part of the 25th Musicalia International Piano Festival, currently being held, young pianist Rodrigo García will present his album, The Latin American Piano and I, this Thursday, June 19th, at 6 p.m., at the Oratorio San Felipe Neri.
Organized by the University of the Arts in collaboration with the Lyceum Mozartiano of Havana, the competition recognized the virtuoso performer, during its 2019 edition, as one of the most notable instrumentalists of our time, thus opening the door to recording the album.
García commented that the coronavirus pandemic had slowed the realization of this award, but that, at the same time, it had contributed to consolidating a unique language and way of speaking.
Compositions conceived for piano by three composers he said he greatly admires: Alberto Ginastera (Argentina), Egberto Gismonti (Brazil), and Aldo López-Gavilán (Cuba), possess a language that, despite being different, contributes to the theme of The Latin American Piano and I, he commented.
He added that it was a tremendous pleasure and enjoyment to have been able to record these works, many of them the first recordings in Cuba for a Cuban record label, which fills him with motivation and hope that at some point they can become reference records for new generations.
The official launch concert at the aforementioned venue on the corner of Obrapía and Aguiar Streets keeps him very excited, and he hopes the audience enjoys the process that comes to an end with the audience's appreciation.
I will try, through these compositions that fascinate me, and the instrument I love, to communicate and create a connection, added Rodrigo García.
At just 27 years old, the instrumentalist has captured the attention of critics and academics at home and abroad, having demonstrated his mastery and mastery of the piano long before his adolescence.
The creation of the Eleven trio, his exquisite performance of classical and popular pieces by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Maurice Ravel, Sergei Prokofiev, Aldo López-Gavilán, Harold López-Nussa, Cucurucho Valdés, and Antonio María Romeu, among others, not to mention winning First Prize in the VIVO International Competition, which allowed him to play at the famed Carnegie Hall in 2016, have made him a leading figure in the piano world of Cuba.
The most recent edition of Cubadisco found him as the artist with the most nominations (eight in total) thanks to the DVDs Los días de gloria and Confluencia de pianos II (The Days of Glory) and the CD El piano latinoamericano y yo (The Latin American Piano and I) being included in the competition together.
This Thursday's concert at the San Felipe Neri Oratory in Old Havana will be another opportunity to enjoy Rodrigo's art. With his instrument, he will validate the expectations of a unique moment, along with the sensations that only the music he produces can provide.
