Havana, March 7 (RHC)-- The Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB by its Spanish acronym) and the Little League Baseball International (LLBI) signed Wednesday a Memorandum of Understanding that will allow the participation of Cuba in the Caribbean events and the World Series of that organization.

The document was signed by Stephen D.Keener, LLBI´s president, and Higinio Velez, president of the Cuban Baseball Federation..

"It´s an important step that acknowledges the prestige of Cuban Baseball and its system, but above all, it is a new opportunity for our children and their families," said Higinio Velez, FCB president.

The main goal of this agreement it´s to promote the progress of baseball, and to increase the already elevated interest of our kids for its practice,  and to develop the proven quality of Little League in the Caribbean and worldwide, Velez stated.

Cuba has a wide experience in teaching and practicing baseball in the ages from 4 through 12.

"The registration of the players in their places of residence, the organization of provincial and national events, and the participation of the champion in the Caribbean Little League, and then –if qualifying- in the World Series,  are challenges that we must face with seriousness and optimism", noted the Cuban official.

LLBI is a non-profit organization based in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, United States, which organizes local leagues throughout that country and in the rest of the world.

It brings together nearly 200,000 teams in 85 countries, with the inclusion of Cuba this March 6, 2019.

Many MLB players have previously played in the LLBI.
