Cuba's artistic gymnastics in Tokyo 2020 unsatisfied

Tokyo, July 25 (RHC)-- The history of Cuba's artistic gymnastics in Tokyo 2020 began and came to an end on the same day, after two discreet performances in the vault horse of its only representative, Marcia Videaux.

Pan American champion in Toronto 2015, Videaux landed in this capital with a single purpose: to qualify for the final of the apparatus, for which she reserved herself exclusively and which will not have her among its Olympic finalists.

At the Ariake Gymnastics Center, the Cuban gymnastics champ obtained 14.166 units in a quite acceptable first attempt, but fell to her knees on the mat in the second, hence the low score: 12.833.

Nothing went right, said coach Osniel Blanco to the press, who showed his dissatisfaction upon learning about the average of 13.499 scores of an athlete accustomed to superior results.

Without half-measures, Blanco said he expected much more from this adventure in Tokyo, 'because everything was done well, she worked fluently in training' and 'the final was the goal'.

On the possible causes, the coach mentioned that 'the pressure of two years without competing could have influenced' an athlete who could not improve the eighteenth place achieved in Rio de Janeiro 2016.

Artistic gymnastics started on July 24 and will run until August 3, with the presence of the world's best exponents, among them, the American superstar Simone Biles.
