Havana, August 29 (RHC)-- The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel lamented on Sunday the death of the outstanding sportsman Giraldo 'Maravilla' González, due to COVID-19.

In his account on the social network Twitter, the dignitary sent his condolences to the national baseball and to the relatives of the man who also excelled as a coach.

The head of state sent the day before a wreath to the funeral of one of the most reliable players of the Caribbean nation's shortstop.

On the same platform, the president of the Cuban Sports Institute, Osvaldo Vento, subscribed that the news moves baseball and the whole sports family in the country.

For his part, the head of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Roberto León Richards, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the 'aspiradora pinareña', as Giraldo González was called by his fans.
