Havana, Oct 10 (RHC) The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel regretted Monday the death of Italian activist Franco Forconi, whom he described as a "great friend of the Cuban Revolution."

In his Twitter account, the dignitary wrote: "He was one of the leaders of the historic Italy-Cuba Solidarity Association, Order of Friendship, proud communist militant."

In the same message, he sent condolences to the family and friends of the defender of the causes of the largest Caribbean Island.

Forconi stood out for his tireless commitment to the worldwide struggle to release the five Cuban anti-terrorists who were unjustly imprisoned in the United States.

He also participated in international meetings where he always condemned Washington's economic, commercial and financial blockade against our country.

In October 2000, the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba awarded him the Friendship Medal, in recognition of his systematic and intense work in solidarity activities and dissemination of the Cuban reality. (Source: PL)
