Cuba's Yaime Perez consolidates her position at the top of the Diamond League

Havana, September 2 (RHC/JIT)-- Winning the Diamond League in Brussels on Wednesday reaffirmed Cuban Yaime Perez as leader of the ranking in the discus throw, within the most important circuit of world athletics.

The bronze medalist at the recent Olympic Games in Tokyo displaced this time the American Valarie Allman and the Croatian Sandra Perkovic, and owner of 30 points will compete in the final phase on September 9 in Zurich.

Yaime had another stable sequence on Wednesday, with just one miss in the first of six attempts. Her maximum shot was 66.47 meters, but the first place came when she dominated the famous The Final 3 with 63.41.

In that defining attempt, Allman, champion under the five rings in the Japanese capital, only managed 63.38 meters, while Perkovic fouled, so they placed second and third, in that order. Fourth place went to Cuba's Denia Caballero, thanks to the 62.28 meters of her first attempt.

Now, behind Yaimé, Perkovic with 28 points and Allman with 20 appear in the ranking, followed by Denia in fourth place with 14 points.

The men's discus competition also took place a day before the rest of the events, since this time the venue was not the King Baudouin stadium in the Belgian city, but the Cambre Forest.

This Thursday, other events will be disputed, such as the pole vault in both sexes, the men's long jump, the women's 200 meters and the men's 400 meters hurdles, just to mention some of the most attractive and with the presence of Olympic medalists.
