Havana, September 28 (RHC)-- The 41 countries belonging to Panam Sports will be in the I Pan American Junior Games Cali 2021, it was confirmed in a meeting between the coordination commission of the maximum entity of the sport in the continent and the organizing committee.

"The 41 countries belonging to Panam Sports assured their presence in Colombia with a number of 4 thousand 806 athletes for the 28 sports of the Games program," said the director of Cali 2021, José Luis Echeverry Azcárate.

Approximately 3,000 volunteers, 1,400 technical officials and 1,142 other officials are also expected to participate in the Games.

The meeting also reviewed progress on key aspects of event planning, including transportation and accommodation.

The Games were initially scheduled to begin on June 5, but were postponed from September 9 to 19. They were then further delayed due to covid-19 and will now be held from November 25 to December 5.

Panam Sports president Neven Ilic shared his joy that the event is finally ready to start in less than two months. "It is a tremendous pride to be here," Ilic said at the meeting in Colombia.

"We have to thank them for the effort they are making to satisfy the youth of the Americas. There are two months left and we will show that we will be able to organize a very responsible Games and with all care," he said.

There will be 315 events in 28 sports and the gold medalists in each will automatically qualify for the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
