Havana, October 2 (RHC)-- The Cuban Football Association (AFC) elected Oliet Rodriguez Mendez as its new president during its 10th Congress, which recognized Luis Hernandez Heres, who held that post since 1998 and will continue tributary from the exercise of his international responsibilities.

Rodríguez Méndez, national commissioner of the discipline since 2018, was elected by vote of the attendees at a meeting that linked by teleconference format the AFC directors in all provinces and addressed important issues.

With the presence of the president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Roberto León Richards, the meeting marked the beginning of a process that will cover the 33 national federations in the country, in line with the schedule readjusted by the International Olympic Committee after the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Games.

"The fundamental challenge is to give continuity to the consolidation of the integral work of a sport in need of settling debts with the base as an essential step to advance in the competitive field," said the current head of the AFC after the session attended as a guest the president of INDER, Osvaldo Vento Montiller.

Also as a result of the vote, the executive was updated, completed by the vice presidents Ciro Escalona Oramas and Luis Mariano Veitía, the deputy secretary general Jesús Pereira León, the secretary Miguel Ángel Díaz Pérez, the treasurer Rolando Reinaldo Almaguer and the members José Ramón Zunzunegui, Jesús Florido Parra and José Yulier Herranz.
