Venezuela to build national center for soccer

Havana, October 16 (RHC)-- Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the construction of the National Soccer Center and a modern stadium to favor the development of the discipline.

After approving the project for the facilities, the earthmoving work will begin in November, according to the head of state at the end of a meeting with the head of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino.

In statements to the press from the Miraflores Palace, Maduro said that he requested FIFA's support to promote the development of Venezuelan football and the recovery of fields and stadiums at the national level.

The Venezuelan president emphasized the importance of implementing actions for the massification of soccer in the communities, together with greater support to professional clubs and the strengthening of leagues in the country for both sexes.

He also advocated the consolidation of relations between the Venezuelan soccer federation and the world soccer governing body, with a view to organizing international events in the South American nation.

In this sense, the dignitary recalled the successful celebration of the Copa América Venezuela 2007, when a total of nine stadiums were built or remodeled and became part of the country's football heritage.

Finally, Maduro supported FIFA's proposal to hold the World Cup every two years, which he described as a great opportunity for the participation of more national teams on a global scale.
