Handball promises satisfaction in Cali 2021

Havana, October 30 (RHC)-- The First Pan American Junior Games of Cali 2021 represent a propitious scenario to confirm the rise in the qualitative level of handball in Cuba.

This time Jorge Coll Arencibia, technical director of the women's team, will have under his tutelage a group of girls with proven responsibility and experience.

So much so that out of 16 pre-selected athletes 11 belong to the senior national team, a fact that speaks of the quality that can be shown in Valle del Cauca and of the promising future for this discipline on the island.

In the group that trains in the capital, some figures stand out, such as Amanda Toledo from Villaclare, contracted in Spain with the Rocasa Gran Canaria club, as left back; Liliamnis Rosabal from Granmense, Danielys Herranz, goalkeeper from Matanzas, and Nahomis Rodríguez Celaya, winger.

International experience is guaranteed. With hours of experience in Central Caribbean and Pan American championships and even in a World Championship, they will have the baton in the young Antillean team placed in the key A of the competition, along with Brazil, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic.

According to their coach, the expectations are to finish among the four best teams of the tournament, a possible and even surmountable goal, understanding that the athletes could be among the medalists.

"The preparation is going well. The planned physical and technical-tactical volumes have been fulfilled. The athletes are focused and psychologically prepared to face the task," Coll Arencibia confirmed to JIT.

In the days prior to the competition, work is being done to perfect some deficiencies, but above all to perfect the strengths that sustain the team.

"We have a fast team and we will work to put that quality in function of the game", said the Villaclareño coach.

On Friday, the results of the draw for the teams that will participate in handball in the continental event, to be held at the Ivan Vassilev Todorov Coliseum of the National School of Sports in Cali, from November 23 to December 4, were announced.

In the women's division, section A includes Chile, Argentina, Mexico and Colombia. The B section includes Cuba, Brazil, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic.

In the men's competition, the Cubans are placed in the B bracket along with Argentina, Dominican Republic and Colombia.

The event will be played on a round-robin basis in each group. The first and second place finishers will meet in the semifinals to define the candidates for the gold and bronze medals.
