Conrado Martinez Corona

Havana, May 28 (PL)-- Cuban sports authorities lamented the death of Conrado Martinez Corona, who was president of the Cuban Sports Institute (Inder) between 1985 and 1994.

The head of the sports body, Osvaldo Vento, wrote on his Twitter profile that the deceased carried out his work with "passion, dedication and audacity.

Our embrace to family and friends," Vento's message reads.

At the head of Inder, he carried out an outstanding work, promoting the development of the Cuban sports movement and being part of important achievements at that stage, notes a note from the Institute.

The digital newspaper Jit also highlighted his important role in the organization of the Pan American Games of Havana-1991, in which Cuban athletes led the medal table in these continental competitions.

Martínez Corona, who was later president of the government of Havana province, belonged to the Young Communist League, where he served as second secretary of its national committee.
