Cuba's Olfides Saez takes sixth place in World Weightlifting Championship

Cuban Olfides Saez

Havana, December 12 (JIT) - Cuba's Olfides Saez and Ariolvis Begué finished sixth and tenth in the 89 kg division, respectively, during the Bogota 2022 World Weightlifting Championships in Colombia.

The experienced Sáez finished ninth in the snatch thanks to lifts of 156 and 161 kg. On his third attempt he failed with 165 kg on the barbell. Begué finished in 14th place with marks of 152 and 157 kg, plus a failure with 160 kg.

In the second movement, Sáez finished seventh with a lift of 201 kg, after failing once with 196 kg and dominating them in the next attempt. His partner finished in 12th place with 190 and 195 kg, plus an error with 199 kg on the bar.    

To anchor in the sixth and tenth places of the division, in order, Olfides totaled 362 and Begué 352 kilograms.

The Venezuelan Keydomar Vallenilla won the crowns in the snatch and total, with figures of 175 and 385 kg, in order. Bulgarian Karlos May Nasar took the rebound with 220 kg.

The previous Cuban to compete, Arley Calderon (61 kg), finished 19th in the first exercise, sixth in the second and eleventh in the biathlon. Still to compete is the female Ayamey Medina Roca in the 81 kg category.
