Havana, December 20 (RHC)-- Thousands of Argentineans arrived today at the capital's Obelisk to celebrate with the national soccer team its victory in the Qatar 2022 World Cup and the third cup of this South American country.
Just one month after the start of the event, the fans will welcome the Scaloneta, who defeated France on Sunday and brought home a trophy they have been longing for for 36 years.
According to the Albiceleste on the social network Twitter, the players will leave near the monument around noon.
The day before, the government decreed a national holiday so that those who supported the national team during the seven matches played could celebrate the victory, described as historic by local media.
According to Télam news agency, the team was scheduled to arrive at Ezeiza International Airport at 19:00 local time on Monday, but a delay in the departure from Doha caused the schedule to be modified.
The Gendarmerie and the Argentine Airport Security Police deployed an operation to guarantee the transfer of the players and technical staff.
The National Road Safety Agency and the company Corredores Viales are also participating in the implementation of the corresponding measures, since yesterday afternoon, groups of people began to camp near the airfield to watch the champions.
After the victory in Qatar, captain Lionel Messi said that everything was crazy.
It's amazing. We were really looking forward to it (the Cup). I knew God was going to give it to me, that this was it. Now I want to celebrate. I can't wait to be in Argentina," he said.
Shortly after, on his Instagram profile, he thanked everyone who supported the team and believed in him.
