Havana, January 25 (RHC)-- Germany beat England 4-3 today in a penalty shootout and qualified to one of the two semifinals of the XV men's field field hockey World Cup taking place in India.

Both teams finished tied at two goals in the regular period of the match, played at the Kalinga stadium in the city of Bhubaneswar, capital of the state of Odisha.

For the winners, striker Mats Jürgen Grambusch (58) and defender Tom Grambusch (59) scored, while for the losers Zachary Wallace (12) and striker Liam Ansell (33) were the scorers.

On Friday, January 27, the Germans will face the Australians in the first semifinal of the World Cup tournament at 16:30 local time. Australia reached this stage of the tournament with a 4-3 win over Spain in the first round of the quarterfinals.

The Oceanians defeated the Iberians with goals by Flynn Andrew Ogilvie (30), Aran Zalewski (32) and a brace by Jeremy Thomas Hayward (33 and 37), while Spain had goals by Xavier Gispert (20), Marc Recasens (24) and Marc Miralles (41).

Australian defender Jeremy Thomas Hayward leads the World Cup scorers with seven goals, followed by French defender Victor Charlet and Belgian forward Tom Alain Boon, both with six.
