Cuban baseball team arrives in Okinawa

Okinawa, February 8 (JIT) - Cooler temperatures than those left in Tokyo, the presence of reporters and two temporary additions marked the arrival here of the bulk of the team that will represent Cuba in the V World Baseball Classic.

After the night's rest that followed the exhausting transfer from Havana to the Japanese capital, the delegation traveled shortly after noon on Wednesday (local time) to the city where they will hold several preparation sessions to which Pedro Pablo Revilla and Guillermo Garcia will be added.

Both members of the Chunichi Dragons will accompany their compatriots during the fitness period designed for Japanese soil, where the expressions of affection received at the air terminal multiplied at the EM Wellness Kurashinohakko Resort hotel.

There, managers and workers unfurled a Lone Star flag, presented flowers to director Armando Johnson and captain Alfredo Despaigne and expressed their willingness to contribute to the successful stay of the Caribbean guests.

"Very satisfied with the atmosphere found here, which corresponds to the high motivation existing in the collective," said the Islander mentor. "There are no injuries and the boys are very focused on the purpose of achieving a good result," he asserted.

Cuba will play the first round of the tournament in Taiwan, starting on March 8, as opponents of the home teams, the Netherlands, Italy and Panama.
