Paralympic champion and world record holder leads Cuban delegation to Parapan American Games

Havana, May 15 (JIT) - Paralympic champion and world record holder Yankiel Sol heads the Cuban delegation that will attend the V Parapan American Youth Games of Bogota 2023.

According to the digital newspaper Jit, Sol, who the day before set the world record in the long jump for the T46 category at 7.69 meters, will be the flag bearer of the delegation together with his teammate Felipa Hechavarría (T47), the only woman registered by Cuba.

The Cuban Paralympic Committee highlighted that this is the first incursion of the Caribbean country in these competitions, and it will do so with 21 athletes to seek medals on Colombian soil from June 2 to 12.

The delegation will compete in para-athletics, with six representatives, para-swimming (5), para-ball (3), para-judo (1), golbol (4) and table paratriathlon (2).

In addition to these disciplines, there will be activities in boccia, soccer for the blind, PC soccer, sitting volleyball, basketball and wheelchair tennis.

Organizers expect about 1,000 competitors under 21 years of age, with the highest numbers in parathletics (209), para-swimming (165) and wheelchair basketball (108).
