Havana, January 22 (JIT) - Yadira Rodriguez, from Cienfuegos, was a surprise in the first National Women's Boxing Championship 2024, when she eliminated in the semifinals of the 66 kg category Arianne Imbert, bronze medalist in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023.

Rodriguez imposed technique and intelligence to overcome the member of the national team 3-0, in a match that was enjoyed by the president of Inder Osvaldo Vento Montiller at the Rafael Trejo Arena, in Old Havana.

The southern Cuban will be the opponent in Monday's final of the bronze medalist in Salvador 2023, but in the 75 kg, Yaquelín Estornell.

"The fact that Imbert lost doesn't mean that I'm going for the gold on Monday. The Cienfuegos native confirmed that there are no small opponents," Estornell told JIT.

She, also from Guantanamo, defeated Erlis Cobas (SCU) 3-0 in her first official appearance at this weight, in which she would compete in the qualifier to be hosted by the Italian city of Busto Arsizio, from February 29 to March 12, with a view to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
