Havana, July 8 (RHC) - The Havana team La Lisa lost 5-6 to the host club Pariba in its first appearance in the Caribbean Little League Baseball (under-12) qualifying tournament, based in Curaçao.
Roberto González Bonachea, head of this category in the Cuban Baseball-Softball Federation, explained that the game went into 12 innings. After a batter struck out, the Cuban catcher failed to hold onto the ball and then threw badly to first base in an attempt to complete the out.
As a result, a runner who was on base scored the run for Pariba. Kevin Agulla lost.
González Bonachea also reported that the Cuban team had seven hits and committed one error, while their Curaçao rivals had 11 hits, including two home runs, and also made one error.
On Tuesday, the students of Havana coach Yoel Flores will face the Aruba team. The starting pitcher will be Legnier Govantes.
Eight teams divided into two groups are participating in this Caribbean event, vying for the only spot that will be awarded for the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania, United States (August).
In addition to La Lisa, Pariba, and Aruba, a team from the Dominican Republic is also participating.
