United Nations, January 30 (RHC)-- The United Nations Security Council has approved a new deployment of European soldiers to the Central African Republic. The move comes amid continued warnings the country’s sectarian conflict between Christian and Muslims could turn into a genocide.

French UN Ambassador Gerard Araud said European forces will take control of a camp for displaced residents in the capital of Bangui. He said that France was "starting" to stabilize the situation, but -- in his words -- "it’s still very fragile."

He said that the EU forces arriving on the scene will help protect some 100,00 refugees fleeing from the fighting and "will allow the French forces to deploy more strongly through the city of Bangui."
